Chapter 01
Where the dust comes back from
A house can look finished from the doorway and still hold dust in the places a quick pass leaves alone. Baseboards, window sills, the slats of blinds, the tops of shelves and light fixtures all catch it, and cobwebs gather in the corners where nobody stands. Do the floors and skip those lines, and the room looks tired again within a few days.

High first, floors last, and the corners between
Dust falls, so the sensible order is top to bottom: the high surfaces first, then the floors once everything above them has been wiped. The list closes the loop with "Vacuum/mop all floors, carpets, rugs, and stairs" and, for wood, "Hardwood floors vacuumed and damp mopped".
Then come the small jobs that make a room feel looked after. "Vacuum cloth furniture including under cushions". "Clean glass surfaces". "Cleaning of the entry storm door". "Empty wastebaskets". And one most people never think to ask for: "Clean around cables (TV cables, computer cables, etc.)", the tangle behind the television and the desk where dust sits undisturbed.

Keeping it done between visits
